The unpardonable sin was what the Pharisees were guilty of because they rejected the testimony of the Holy Spirit and attributing the miracles of the Spirit to Beezlebub. The word of Jesus was substantiated by the miracles that the Holy Spirit produced through Him. The miracles Christ did were not His own, but the Father's through the Spirit. When the Pharisees rejected the miracles of the Spirit, there was no further witness that God could provide to lead men to Christ. Christ must be offering Himself as king and messiah to the chosen people of Israel in order for the unpardonable sin to be committed.
The sin unto death on the other hand, I believe is not referring to spiritual death i.e. loss of salvation. I believe it is referring to physical death as a result of unconfessed sin (see 1 Corinthians 11:30 on an example of this). I see the sin unto death being applied more to the side of the backslidden believer than the apostate since as I noted in my blog post, an apostate can't be a true believer, and the Lord chastens those whom He loves.
Thanks for your comments BrotherAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11437898241839341764noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7774399470438009481.post-37657007055951903852012-06-20T04:47:02.072-07:002012-06-20T04:47:02.072-07:00Thanks brother.
I agree with your distinction be...Thanks brother.

I agree with your distinction between apostasy/falling-away and backsliding. What about the distinction between the unpardonable sin and "sin unto death." Do you think it dovetails with the apostasy and backsliding distinction?

LeeAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04053759975964979436noreply@blogger.com
